Just 10 Seconds at a Time

A few months ago I shared this on my other blog but since so many friends of mine are expecting or welcoming their little ones into the world, I thought it was a great time to share it again!

Mommy's always need encouragement. Becoming a mom isn't easy. As soon as you get home with your bundle of joy, you soon realize that being a mommy is a LOT of work. While I was pregnant with Sophia I had liked quite a few mommy pages on Facebook. I loved reading their posts and I often learned a lot from them. One day, a few weeks before Sophia was born, I clicked on a new posts that was shared on one of those groups. This post seemed a bit different than what I normally saw them share.

In this post, the writer reminded us how difficult being a new mom could be. There will be times where your little one cries and nothing seems to soothe them. Maybe your having issues breast feeding. Whatever the problem is, she reminds us that you only need to make it through 10 seconds at a time. At first I wasn't really sure what that meant. I mean 10 seconds?? Your problem will last much longer than just 10 seconds! I remember the first night I was home with my Sophia. She was so spoiled to sleeping on my chest in the hospital that we couldn't get her to sleep in her co-sleeper. I was so exhausted that I was almost in tears. At the same time, she was having trouble latching and was extremely fussy. I remember laying in the bed with her that night while she cried and I suddenly remembered.....I only need to make it through 10 seconds at a time. At that moment I took a deep breath, closed my eyes and counted to 10. Just those 10 seconds made me feel so much better.

So when your having a rough night with your little one and you feel like crying your eyes out, just remember....you only need to make it through 10 seconds at a time.
